For those who have missed seeing Jason Sudeikis’ killer mustache and upbeat attitude on their small screens, the actor has great news: Ted Lasso is coming back for a fourth season.
“In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to ‘leap before they look,’ discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be,” Sudeikis said in a March 14 press release announcing Apple TV+’s renewal of the Emmy-winning comedy series.
The show, which follows an American football coach (Sudeikis) who is unexpectedly recruited to lead a struggling English soccer team, AFC Richmond, became a phenomenon after it premiered in August 2020. Ted Lasso‘s blend of humor and heart led it to win numerous accolades, including 11 Emmys and two Golden Globes. After the season 3 finale in May 2023, it also left fans wishing for more.
In a discussion with Collider in August 2024, co-creator, writer and producer Bill Lawrence emphasized the collective enthusiasm among the cast and crew to continue with season 4 if given the opportunity.
With the show’s renewal now confirmed, here’s everything to know about Ted Lasso season 4.
How did season 3 of Ted Lasso end?
Apple TV+
Season 3 of Ted Lasso concluded with Ted returning to the U.S. to be with his son, Henry, giving way to emotional goodbyes between the coach and his team. With Ted gone, the future of AFC Richmond is in the hands of new manager Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), who has evolved from a testy former player to a respected coach.
The finale also sees Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) considering selling the football team but ultimately deciding to keep it after realizing how much it means to her and the community. Meanwhile, Keeley (Juno Temple) continues her journey in the public relations world, establishing her own firm.
While the series wrapped up many character arcs, the conclusion left the door slightly ajar, especially with hints of future developments like Keeley’s idea for a women’s team and open-ended conclusions with her Roy-Jamie (Phil Dunster) love triangle, as well as Rebecca’s continued journey with AFC Richmond.

At the Banff World Media Festival in June 2024, Warner Bros. TV chairman and CEO Channing Dungey said on a Deadline-moderated panel that the studio has had conversations about “all of the above,” in reference to a season 4 of Ted Lasso or a spinoff series. However, she added, they didn’t want to churn out another season simply for the “sake” of it.
“It’s the sort of thing where you don’t want to go do more just for the sake of more; you want to go do more because you actually have something to say, you have a story that you want to tell,” she said.
While speaking with Collider in August 2024, co-creator Lawrence acknowledged that a continuation of Ted Lasso was something the crew was enthusiastic about because of the widely positive experience of making the show.
“Groupthink sometimes happens, even without talking to each other, and every actor, actress, writer, producer on that show — and [we didn’t get] together and decide this was the message — we all loved the experience,” he said.
Lawrence elaborated on the decision being contingent on Sudeikis, both artistically and personally, noting the actor’s children would play a role in his decision.
“Not only is he the star, he’s the head writer, and he’s also the dude whose life just has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children,” he explained.

Ahead of the season 3 premiere, Sudeikis was candid about the original vision for Ted Lasso as a three-season arc. In March 2023, he told Deadline, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.”
However, he didn’t completely rule out the possibility of more, noting the overwhelmingly positive response from fans in regard to a continuation of the series — before the third season had even been released.
“The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet — that being season 3 — it’s flattering,” he said.
In January 2024, the actor shared similar sentiments with PEOPLE: “I feel three seasons of the show were just made with and attempted to personify and portray the spirit of hope, and so I offer those three seasons as an example.”
Will there be a Ted Lasso season 4?
Apple TV+
Yes, there will be a fourth season of Ted Lasso. In March 2025, Apple TV+ confirmed that the comedy series had been renewed and that Sudeikis would be reprising his role as the beloved Coach Lasso.
“Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said in the press release. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”
Details about the plot and release date haven’t been announced. Though Sudeikis is the only confirmed cast member to return, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in August 2024 that Waddingham, Goldstein and Jeremy Swift (who plays Leslie Higgins in the series) have been approached to reprise their roles.
