So, you know Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria, who have seven children together.
Their kids are Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, 9, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 8, Romeo Alejandro David, 6, Eduardo ‘Edu’ Pao Lucas, 4, María Lucía Victoria, 4, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, 2. Alec is also the father of Ireland Baldwin, 29, from his previous marriage to actor Kim Basinger.
Are all the kids’s names relevant to the story? Not really. Do they make me wonder if they write all those first and middle names on the kids’s sack lunches every day? Absolutely.
Luckily, Hilaria and Alec have a TLC reality TV series, The Baldwins, that gives a glimpse into the family dynamics of the couple and their huge household to possibly answer my most ridiculous questions.
Alec, a known wise-cracking jokester from his iconic roles in 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, always has me guessing whether or not he’s being serious, and he had that same energy during an interview with Extra alongside his wife.
When asked if there will be a Season 2 of The Baldwins, Alec responded, “The Hilaria Show,” before Hilaria suggested she’ll see first how it feels to have the show “be out there.”
Alec continued with a few complimentary wise-cracks, saying, “It’s going to be great. You’re a winner,” to his wife, but her response made me almost spit out my $10 strawberry matcha.
“When I’m talking, you’re not talking. Shh,” she snapped. “No. When I’m talking, you’re not talking.”
Holding her hand up to block Alec’s face, she said, “This is why we’ll just have to cut him out of the show.”
The way Alec looked at the camera afterward was priceless.
Hilaria continued the interview while Alec was seen walking away in the background, which made me (and the collective internet) unsure if that interaction was a comedic bit or a bite of their reality.
When Alec returned, he admitted that he had made certain parts of the reality show sillier since their day-to-day life was routinely normal. But then, Hilaria interjected, “No, we just cut all that part out.”
The best part of the interview is when Hilaria said having a routine is “essential,” Alec asked her how to say the word in Spanish — an obvious callback to the controversy surrounding her accent.
The interview took another turn when Hilaria told Alec he was “distracting” her. “Why?” she asked. “Why are you distracting me?”
Alec tried to speak again, and Hilaria yelled, “Stop! You’re annoying me. Stop. It’s not cute,” before returning to the interviewer and saying, “No. He’s distracting me.”
Like a bowl of onions or cucumbers on Hilaria’s kitchen counter, I was at a loss for words for what the entire interaction meant, but the internet didn’t hold back on their thoughts.
One person said, “Wow, that was a very, very bad moment right there.”
“She’s horrible to him, never thought I would feel sorry for Alec,” another person wrote.
Somebody else went as far as to say, “He’s a hostage.”
Another person noted that wise-cracking Alec “finally met his match.”
And another person said, “She makes him appear mild and we all know he’s not!”
This person asked the question, I was wondering. “Is this a parody?”
And finally, somebody tried to be reasonable claiming that “she was trying to be cute or funny and it just came off as annoying and rude.”
Let’s hope that their banter was all in good fun. I guess I’ll have to watch the show to discover the truth. Wish me luck.
