Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Trailer Recreates Iconic Moments

Lilo & Stitch is the latest Disney classic getting a live-action treatment.

The Dean Fleischer Camp–directed remake again sees the boisterous blue alien terrorizing Earth’s island of Kauai — or attempting to terrorize, only to become an adorable sweetheart. That’s all thanks to goofball Lilo, played in the new movie by Maia Kealoha.

In the first full trailer that debuted March 12, there are glimpses of the rest of the live-action cast: Sydney Agudong as Lilo’s sister and guardian Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as Nani’s friend David, and Courtney B. Vance as social worker Cobra Bubbles.

Chris Sanders, director of the 2002 animated Lilo & Stitch (co-created by Dean DeBlois), reprises his role as the voice of Stitch. The dog-like alien can be seen adapting to life in Hawaii in the trailer, learning the true meaning of “ohana,” or family.

Alien mad scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba (voiced by Zach Galifianakis), Earth expert Agent Pleakley (voiced by Billy Magnussen) and the United Galactic Federation’s Grand Councilwoman (voiced by Hannah Waddingham) also make appearances.

Returning to the Lilo & Stitch screen franchise is Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original animated film and its animated series and other spinoffs. She now plays new character Mrs. Kekoa, another social worker.

Like her character, the 7-year-old Kealoha hails from the Hawaiian islands, earning the part of Lilo after a wide search. “When I found out I was going to be Lilo, my jaw literally dropped and I couldn’t even believe it,” the actress told PEOPLE last June. “I rung my dad and I said, ‘I did it! I’m Lilo! I’m Lilo!’ And then they grabbed me and we jumped up and down. I was so excited!”
