One of Kim Kardashian’s most precious pieces of jewelry was saved when she was robbed in Paris in 2016 — thanks to an off-the-cuff warning from Kanye West.
On the March 13 episode of The Kardashians, Kim, 44, recalled the warning her then-husband had given her to never wear both of her engagement rings at the same time after she did so once — and showed it off online.
“My first one that I got engaged to Kanye [with] was a cushion cut and that was the only piece of jewelry I owned that I didn’t take to Paris,” Kim said.
West proposed initially with a 15-carat ring in 2013 and later gifted her an upgraded, 20-carat ring that she debuted in 2016. Speaking on the new episode, Kim said she had worn both her rings to an event at Madison Square Garden with jeweler Lorraine Schwartz and showed the pair off in an Instagram video.
“Kanye saw it and he goes, ‘Don’t you ever wear both of your rings at the same time. Are you looking to get robbed?’ ” she recalled.

When she went to Paris that same year, Kim said she “left my original ring that I got proposed to, which was like the most important” at home.
The 20-carat, newer ring, which was worth an estimated $4 million, was one of the several pieces of jewelry that was taken from her hotel room while she was held at gunpoint during the terrifying heist. An estimated $10 million in jewels were robbed in total.
In the aftermath of the robbery, she stopped wearing flashy jewelry for several years, but in the Kardashians episode, she told her sister Khloé she might start wearing her diamonds again — which Khloé, 40, was totally on board for.
Kim also revealed her plan to give her engagement ring to her daughter North, 11. “That one, I’m gonna give to Northy, because she was with me when I got engaged and she held it after and I took a photo and she was just, like, a few months old,” she said.
North, the couple’s oldest daughter, was 4 months old when the rapper proposed to Kim at San Francisco’s AT&T Park, which he rented out, on her 33rd birthday. An orchestra played upon their arrival and West displayed a message on the jumbotron asking Kim to marry him in the lavish proposal, where she was joined by her family and friends.

Kim and West wed in May 2014 and divorced nearly seven years later in 2021. Along with North, they share daughter Chicago, 7, and sons Saint, 9, and Psalm, 5.
