  • Pudgy Penguins denies OpenSea acquisition rumors, urges fans to focus forward.
  • Viral 2024 post by CEO Netz reignites OpenSea acquisition gossip.
  • Head of Security Beau clarifies Penguins’ stance: no OpenSea deal.

Pudgy Penguins, a popular NFT project, has denied rumors that it acquired the NFT marketplace OpenSea. The speculation began after posts on social media suggested a secret deal may have been finalized in December 2024.

Old Statement Fuels Rumors of Pudgy Penguins Buying OpenSea

These speculations gained steam when some of the old statements of the Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz resurfaced on the internet. In one of the viral posts in October 2024, Netz stated that he wished to purchase OpenSea. This statement alone led to renewed gossip that a back-room deal had been made between both companies.

On Saturday, the Head of Security at Pudgy Penguins, Beau, cleared the air on X (previously Twitter). Beau wrote simply, Pudgy Penguins did not acquire OpenSea chill. He said that the project is not only centered on a single idea of acquisition, but it is also aiming at larger objectives.

Then in a follow-up post, he asked fans, “Talk up partnering with Lufthansa and NASCAR, and go find us the next great brand to proliferate with.” Beau made it clear that society must not live in the past.

In July 2021, Pudgy Penguins was started as a collection of 8,888 NFTs of flightless birds. Since that time, this project has developed at a rapid rate and reached mainstream awareness. Perhaps the most prominent growth has been introducing the Pudgy Toys physical toy line, in collaboration with PMI Toys. The digital penguins appear in real life through these toys.

Moreover, Pudgy Penguins launched OverpassIP, a platform that enables NFT owners to sell their characters for commercial use. This aspect transforms NFTs into assets that can bring in revenue.

Pudgy Penguins Not Acquiring OpenSea, Focuses on Growth

The team’s recent partnerships have also drawn attention. Partnerships with such big brands as Lufthansa and NASCAR indicate the trend toward wider market involvement. The collaborations will help to establish Pudgy Penguins as a brand not only in the form of an NFT collection but also as an entertainment and lifestyle brand.

Although there is so much noise on the internet, OpenSea has not issued any news about a possible takeover. Neither of the parties has confirmed the rumors, which means that they are not true.

One should not be surprised by a controversial statement or unexpected news when it comes to the NFT community, as the Pudgy Penguins project is not an exception. But this time around, the team has been swift in preventing misinformation.

In the meantime, there seems to be an emphasis on brand growth, physical goods, and cross-nation collaboration rather than marketplace acquisitions. Instead of pursuing headlines, Pudgy Penguins is a company that will seek to build sustainable value for its community via innovation.

Pudgy Penguins directly denied the acquisition rumors. This response reflects a growing Web3 trend that values transparency and open communication. As NFT ecosystems mature, project leaders increasingly address misinformation head-on. They clarify facts early to prevent rumors from escalating.

Overall, Pudgy Penguins is not acquiring OpenSea. The team aims at expanding its brand by means of alliances, products, and platforms that introduce NFTs into the daily routine.
